Hospitals around the world are dealing with a nursing profession in transition. Turnover rates are at a peak, satisfaction with work environment is compromised, and shortages are adding stress to team communication and continuity of care. A traditional lack of attention to the educational and career needs of nurses and an overwhelming focus on providing high-quality patient care have created a situation where nurses, physicians and administrators internationally are joining together to put resources behind the needs of this vital workforce. HMI partners with health care organizations that are committed to supporting the professional development of their nursing staff. Drawing upon resources both within and outside of the Harvard community, and working closely with the nursing leadership of our partners, HMI collaborates on programs that strengthen nursing leadership, clinical practice, and education, and provide nurses with an opportunity to network and discuss the issues that are important to them.
