Around the world, governments, health ministries, and health care delivery organizations are striving to integrate global best practices into the regulatory environment to maximize patient safety. The goal is to raise the standard for quality–not just of services directly related to patient care, but of medical education programs and health care facilities development as well. A common challenge is ensuring that standards, mechanisms for assessment, and regulatory processes are effective in evaluating, providing incentives, and ultimately providing oversight for individual providers of services. PHMI, drawing upon a wealth of experience across the spectrum of health care systems development and medical education, and working in tandem with regional and international authorities, works to develop regulatory and licensure standards and processes that integrate global best practices into local health care environments. This involves establishing clear definitions of quality and its related standards and benchmarks; implementing an infrastructure to guide assessment and improvement; and defining the core processes for granting licensure and/or accreditation under the terms established.
