Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) was created by the Government of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to be a center of excellence for medical services, medical education, and life science research. Since its inception the DHCC community has grown rapidly to include a network of licensed clinical providers and non-clinical operators including top institutions from around the world. DHCC will ultimately be comprised of regional medical care and wellness facilities, including academic tertiary care and specialty referral hospitals, primary and secondary care centers, educational facilities, basic and clinical research facilities, and commercial biotechnology research and development facilities. Its core campus, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Academic Medical Center, will include the Hvard Medical School Dubai Center Institute for Postgraduate Education & Research as well as the University Hospital.
In 2003 the Government of Dubai entered into a long-term strategic collaboration with Harvard Medical International (now Partners Harvard Medical International). Since the partnership began, PHMI has played a lead role in the planning and design of not only the health care city but also associated entities created to foster the development of high-quality education and research programs in the Middle East.
As DHCC’s chief strategic collaborator, PHMI fulfills a wide range of strategic and operational oversight functions, most notably through participation in the regulatory governance of DHCC and through participation in key DHCC development projects. To ensure that optimal governance, quality systems, standards, operating processes, rules and regulations were established at DHCC, PHMI has drawn upon a wide range of experts from both within the Harvard system, the Harvard medical community, other national institutions, and from PHMI’s international network of associated institutions. Faculty from Harvard's Schools of Business, Education, Public Health, and Government have contributed significantly to the breadth and depth of the expertise and experience brought to the development of the DHCC infrastructure.
