Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU), a public university in the heart of Tokyo, is a leader in medical and dental education in Japan. TMDU oversees the 800-bed University Hospital. TMDU collaborates with faculty from Harvard Medical School and Ludwig Maximilians University (Munich, Germany) to develop and implement curricular reforms and new teaching approaches in the medical and dental programs. Faculty development programs held in Boston and Tokyo have helped to reinvigorate the school's education programs. Each year, a select group of TMDU students comes to Boston for several months of elective rotations in the Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.
