BACKGROUND

Origin and history
We transform health care delivery globally by building strategic collaborations with regional leaders committed to excellence and innovation in the provision of health care and workforce development. The organization now known as Partners Harvard Medical International (PHMI) was founded originally in 1994 as Harvard Medical International (HMI), a subsidiary of Harvard University. HMI was created to extend internationally Harvard Medical School's tradition of excellence in clinical medicine, medical education, and biomedical research. The organization became PHMI in the spring of 2008 under the terms of an affiliation agreement between Harvard University and Partners HealthCare System, giving PHMI broader access to the resources of the Harvard teaching hospitals.

FOCUS

What we do
Through collaborations with health care delivery organizations, academic medical institutions, government and non-governmental agencies, and other key stakeholders, we work to develop the critical intellectual resources, professional expertise, and infrastructure required to support high-quality patient care, education, and research. Whether contributing to the development of a new medical school or hospital, or designing and delivering programs focused around professional development, leadership, or systems improvement, fundamentally our approach is to collaborate with our clients to create an appropriate long-term strategy to meet their objectives, and work with them to design and implement programs to achieve these goals.

Global experience
We have played a major role in the development of health and education systems globally. Since our inception we have delivered programs and services in over 40 countries, with significant experience in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. We have provided training and education for hundreds of health care professionals, leaders, and students around the world, and helped our clients to achieve measurable progress, as well as national and regional recognition.
