Aramco Services Company, a subsidiary of Saudi Aramco with offices in Houston, Texas, supports, through its Career Development Division, the participation of Saudi physicians in Harvard Medical School-affiliated graduate medical education programs for education and training of physician specialists. The purpose of this program is to foster the development of a cadre of physician-specialists and clinical scientists who will contribute to the advancement of medicine and health in Saudi Arabia in the next century.

Under the terms of a long-standing alliance with Aramco, HMI has coordinated the assessment and placement of selected young Saudi Arab physicians into traineeships, assisted in the acculturation of new appointees, monitored their performance, and participated in the evaluation of outcome both from the perspective of the goals and aspirations of the residents and fellows, and the aims and priorities of Aramco.

  • Nineteen Saudi physicians have had the opportunity to study and train in Harvard-affiliated medical institutions under the auspices of the HMI-Aramco alliance.
  • Participants' specialty areas have included anesthesia, internal medicine, neonatal and prenatal medicine, neuroradiology, orthopedic surgery, pediatric pulmonology, and radiology.
